At Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California, we are proud of our diverse injectable treatment offerings.

Whether you’re looking to return volume to sunken cheeks, erase your crow’s feet, shrink your double chin or boost your thinning hair, we have the injectables to do it.

Our board certified dermatologists have received extensive training and are master injectors with years of experience with all of these products. We have brief introductions for each injectable listed below. When you click on the name, you will be taken to a page with more detailed information on each option.

NEUROMODULATORS

These injectables are made from the botulinum toxin type A. Back in the 1950s, it was discovered that when a minuscule amount of the toxin was injected into a muscle, it temporarily stopped the muscle from contracting. Botox came from this research and was first approved by the FDA for the treatment of involuntary eyelid spasms. It became famous in 2002, when the FDA approved Botox for use on the upper third of the face for wrinkle treatment.

When we make expressions such as frowning, squinting, showing surprise, and others, muscles around our eyes, between our eyebrows, and on our forehead engage. Over time, these contractions begin to create wrinkles on the surface skin above the muscle. These wrinkles are known as “dynamic wrinkles.” These are crow’s feet next to the eyes, the 11s between the eyebrows, and forehead lines. When a neuromodulator is injected into the muscles that create these wrinkles, they block the nervemessages from the muscle to the brain. Since the brain doesn’t receive the message to contract the muscle, it stays relaxed and the wrinkle on the surface skin doesn’t form. This lasts for a period of around three to four months. At that point, the muscle will begin to contract again and the wrinkle will return, but another injection session will maintain your results.

Our Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators temporarily block nerve receptors to soften muscle motion that causes lines between brows, crow’s feet, forehead, lip lines, chin and neck. Neuromodulators work well to enhance the results of other procedures such as laser treatments and fillers. Treatment is recommended three to four times per year. Treatments are low risk with excellent patient satisfaction.

Treatments Injectables Botox

Botox

Botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles so they do not contract, preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles. Untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

Treatments Injectables Jeauveau

Jeauveau

Jeuveau is a modern-made neurotoxin approved by the FDA to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines. Jeuveau is the first and only product of its kind dedicated exclusively to aesthetics!

Treatments Injectables Xeomin

Xeomin

Xeomin is the only clinically proven anti-wrinkle injection with XTRACT Technology, a state-of-the-art manufacturing process that uniquely purifies the molecule, removing the unnecessary proteins and leaving just the active therapeutic component.

Treatments Injectables Dysport

Dysport

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the underlying facial muscles as you smile, laugh or frown. These dynamic wrinkles can be dramatically softened with Dysport, a prescription medicine injected into muscles to temporarily improve the appearance of worry, frown and laugh lines, crow’s feet, upper lip lines and other dynamic wrinkles.

Treatments Injectables Dysport

DAXXIFY™

DAXXIFY™ is FDA approved to help smooth moderate to severe lines between the brows. It is the only long-lasting frown line treatment powered by a peptide with results that last on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some.*

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers work in a completely different manner than Botox and the other neuromodulators. When injected beneath a wrinkle, crease, or area that has lost volume, they simply “fill” in the space, pushing the skin back upward and erasing or thoroughly diminishing the crease or area of volume loss. Our numerous dermal filler options each target a specific area where volume loss has occurred.

Dermal fillers treat the other kind of wrinkles, known as “static wrinkles.” Unlike wrinkles formed by muscle contractions, these wrinkles are due to sun damage, declining collagen production, personal habits, and simple aging. Static wrinkles show themselves at all times and have nothing to do with muscle contractions. These are all static wrinkles: smile and laugh lines, marionette lines, parentheses lines, and barcode lines. These are areas of volume loss that dermal fillers treat: the cheeks, the under eye areas, the lips, and the backs of the hands.

Dermal fillers are classified as either natural or synthetic. Natural fillers are made primarily from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body whose job is to hydrate, plump, and firm the skin. Hyaluronic acid does this by binding with nearby water molecules. Synthetic fillers use man-made items such as calcium microspheres to add volume and structure under the skin.

Our hyaluronic acid dermal fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body’s connective tissues and skin. These fillers plump up facial skin that may have lost volume or elasticity as part of the aging process. Hyaluronic acid fillers are a popular choice for plumping the lips and reducing facial lines and wrinkles.

Juvederm Treatment

Juvederm

Juvederm is a smooth injectable gel made from modified hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a complex sugar naturally found in the human body, where it helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume.

Our Juvederm family of products:

Renuva

Renuva Is a dermal filler made from allograft adipose matrix derived from human fat. This treatment restores age-related volume loss in the face, hands, and body. Over time Renuva is replaced with your body’s own fat.

CALCIUM BASED FILLER

Radiesse

Radiesse contains calcium-based microspheres that, once injected, act as a scaffold under the skin to provide lift, effectively treating moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Over time, these microspheres begin to stimulate your natural collagen so results are both immediate and long-lasting.

POLY-L-LACTIC ACID FILLER

Sculptra Aesthetic

Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable. Poly-l-lactic acid fillers work overtime to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen, providing long lasting results. These fillers are a great choice for restoring lost volume to the face. Radiesse contains calcium-based microspheres that, once injected, act as a scaffold under the skin to provide lift, effectively treating moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Over time, these microspheres begin to stimulate your natural collagen so results are both immediate and long-lasting.

FAT DISSOLVING INJECTION

Kybella

Submental fullness: that’s the clinical term for something many of us have and universally hate — a double chin. Formerly, there was little that could be done about a double chin, short of surgery. But that changed a couple years ago with the introduction of Kybella.

Kybella is made from deoxycholic acid. In the body, deoxycholic acid is responsible for breaking down dietary fat. But it doesn’t differentiate from fat we eat and fat that has accumulated under our chin. So, when Kybella is injected into the fat deposit that has collected under the chin, it breaks down the fat. The result is a noticeable reduction in fullness, revealing an improved profile.. The FDA has approved Kybella for up to six injection sessions.

NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT

Silhouette Instalift

If you want to experience the lifting of sagging facial skin that you get from a facelift, but don’t want to have surgery, a Silhouette Instalift is for you. Dissolvable sutures made from glycolide/L-lactide strands are threaded under the skin. They are placed so that they lift and reposition sagging tissues. The strands have a series of bi-directional cones, which anchor the sutures in place. As the body absorbs the strands, they stimulate production of new collagen to increase the duration of your results, which last up to
18 months.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY

The platelets in our blood are crucial for allowing the blood to clot when healing a wound, but the platelets have a far greater role: they also contain growth factors to help with overall healing. So, what if you could take your blood and concentrate the platelets? That would be platelet-rich plasma.

With platelet-rich plasma, a sample of your blood is taken and placed into a centrifuge that separates out the red blood cells. What remains are concentrated blood platelets, white blood cells, and plasma. This serum has incredible healing and rejuvenation characteristics. Professional athletes have used platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for years to help them recover from injury and surgery.

At the Laser & Skin Surgery Center, we use PRP to coax dormant hair follicles to return to the growth phase. For PRP for thinning hair, we inject PRP across the target areas of the scalp to initiate new hair growth.
