The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California the first office in Sacramento to offer Emsella, a breakthrough treatment for urinary incontinence that’s as easy as sitting in a chair!
Aging, childbirth, and menopause can lead to urinary incontinence. Emsella is a new and exciting FDA cleared device that targets a woman’s pelvic floor region for the treatment of stress and urge urinary incontinence. Emsella is a completely non-invasive treatment that harnesses the power of HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) technology to stimulate the entire pelvic floor at once – with a single session providing thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions, comparable to thousands of Kegels. The unique chair design of Emsella allows women to remain fully clothed for treatment, with no pain or downtime.
What is urinary incontinence?
Statistics show that approximately 35% of women worldwide are affected by urinary incontinence (loss of bladder control), which presents itself in three forms: stress (leakage during physical activity), urge (strong and sudden), and mixed (combination of stress and urge). It is caused by a weakening of the muscles within the pelvic floor region, often a result of childbirth, menopause and the natural aging process.
How does Emsella work?
Emsella is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic fields, generated by a coil positioned inside the Emsella chair. These electromagnetic fields deliver focused electromagnetic energy to the whole pelvic floor area, resulting in selective and supramaximal muscle contractions that build up muscle strength and restore the support of the pelvic organs.
Am I a candidate for Emsella?
Emsella is a great option for women of any age who desire a solution for urinary incontinence and improvement in their quality of life. Please let your treatment provider know if you have or have had any of the following possible contraindications for treatment: cardiac pacemakers, implanted defibrillators, implanted neurostimulators, electronic implants, metal implants, drug pumps, hemorrhagic conditions, anticoagulation therapy, heart disorders, or recent surgical procedures (muscle contraction may disrupt healing in the treatment area). Pregnant or nursing women cannot undergo the Emsella treatment.
How long does an Emsella treatment take?
Treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. You will remain fully clothed during the treatment.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
Your provider will tailor a treatment plan for you depending on your specific treatment needs. For optimal results the recommended number of treatments is six, with sessions separated by at least two days, depending on your needs. Completing a full treatment series is necessary to maximize treatment efficacy. You may need additional treatments depending on the severity of your condition.
What does the Emsella treatment feel like?
There is typically no pain associated with treatment and there is no anesthetic required. As you sit in the unique chair design of the device, you will experience a gradually increasing tingling feeling and muscle contractions. These sensations in the pelvic area are normal and expected. Daily activities may be resumed immediately after the treatment.
How fast will I notice results?
You may observe improvement after a single session. The results will typically continue to improve over the next few weeks. A recent clinical study demonstrated that 95% of patients treated reported satisfaction and significant improvement in their quality of life following six treatments. Additionally 67% of treated patients totally eliminated or decreased the use of hygienic pads in day-to-day life.
